The new year has brought precipitation to Arizona, and a lot more than usual. This bodes well for our fungi friends, and is a great opportunity for us to hold an educational foray in the Spring, outside of our usual summer mushroom season.

Since Spring weather can be fickle and our precipitation is well above normal, we are announcing a snap foray to lean about local plants and fungi this Saturday, April 6, 2024.

The Arizona Mushroom Society will be offering a plant and fungi walk on Saturday, April 6, from 9-11am in the Verde Valley to share information about local plants and fungi in our environment. Our primary mushroom season in AZ coincides with the summer monsoons, but we wanted to offer this extra opportunity to share about our local Arizona plants and fungi, how to identify them, key characteristics, and edible or other traditional uses.

Due to limited capacity, you must register to join this event. This event is open only to AMS members and is free of charge. Those who register successfully will receive an email with detailed meet-up information. Our event are very popular and fill up extremely quickly, so if you do not receive this email, you are not registered and instead may be on the waitlist. Since our events are very limited in space, please only register if you are certain you can attend.

This even is outside and will require hiking 1-2 miles over approximately 2 hours on uneven terrain and through weeds and brush. We will be looking for plants and mushrooms in areas with mud, and it is possible the event coincides with windy weather and/or light rain. Prepare for cold morning temperatures with wind and rain and wear shoes that are fit for muddy ground conditions. Please bring sunscreen, food, water, and appropriate foot wear and clothing. 

We request no dogs be brought to the foray. Children under 15 years do not require registration, but must attend with a registered parent.
